Arthritis Rehabilitation Program

We'll treat the person, not just the condition, to help you live life to the fullest.

Arthritis is a disease characterized by pain, swelling and limited movement in joints and connective tissues.  It is the leading cause of disability in people 15 years of age and older.  Whether you are noticing mild symptoms of arthritis or have experienced joint pain for many years, Spaulding’s therapists will help you get more out of every day.

Our approach to arthritis goes beyond addressing only pain.  Therapists will help you incorporate lifestyle changes to enhance your health and abilities, empowering you to overcome physical limitations while reducing healing time and restoring independence.  Whether your goals include competitive athletics, work, hobbies, or simply pain-free living, Spaulding will help get you back to the things you love to do.

Commonly seen arthritis-related diagnoses:

  • Hip, wrist, ankle, elbow fractures
  • Joint replacement
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Muskuloskeletal disorders
  • Osteoporosis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Spine disfigurement

Advanced Care to Meet our Arthritis Patients' Needs

Spaulding’s physical and occupational therapists and physicians carefully evaluate the relationship between each patient’s impairment and functional limitations to develop an individualized plan of care focused on each patient’s goals.  The treatment plan may include:

  • Therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility, strength, and flexibility
  • Low impact exercise programs
  • Custom splinting and bracing for joint protection and stability
  • Education about joint protection and home modifications.
  • Consultation with Rehabilitation Physician
  • Medical treatment with the latest arthritis drugs
  • Injections, spinal procedures and other interventions

Spaulding’s highly skilled therapists regularly attend ongoing continuing education courses to update and advance their skills.  They’ll work closely with your referring physician and other specialists to ensure effective progression of therapy.

Many of Spaulding’s rehabilitation physicians specialize in techniques to relieve pain, such as joint injections, spine procedures and acupuncture.
